Nortel Phones Blinking not working

Nortel phones blinking continuously but system does not seem to start working after it restarts, How do you reset your office Nortel phone system that is not working?  ( Has been asked by a user)

Support:  I understand you want to restart your Nortel Phone System, and have it work again.  This is an older system so be aware every time you power cycle you risk the system failing.  This likely occurred after a storm or power outage.  The damage per se is done, therefore you can try unplugging the unit.  Waiting for 5 to 15 minutes then replug the unit in and wait.   You do not want to hit any resets buttons or press in a reset button because it would erase all your programming if it is still in place.

Support:  You will need Nortel Support in this situation, this is not an end user repair.

A user has reported:

“All my Nortel Phones are flashing and won’t stop. I can not make an outbound or receive an inbound call”

Answer:

There are a few reasons why the Nortel Phones are Blinking?

During the loading process of firmware on your Nortel Networks phone system or Norstar Phone System, the phones will often blink.  This process can take a few minutes as these systems are older.

However, if the Nortel Phone does not stop flashing, you likely have either a system failure or a firmware failure in this system.  So, the first thing you can try is to power cycle your Nortel Phone System.   Be aware this is only recommended if you have no other choice as these systems do not like to be powered off.    So, unplug the phone system from its main power (outlet) and wait about ten to fifteen minutes before restoring power.    The Nortel Phone Should flash again but this time the system should load.

Be aware you are having issues and you should submit a tech support ticket even if the system is restored.

If however, after you’ve restored power and the Nortel Phones keep flashing and the phone system does not operate then you need a Nortel Technician to address your system failure.

A,  Check to see if the plug at the Jack or on the Phone has come loose or out of its socket.   It may be a broken clip and by returning it to the position. If the display and phone begin to operate you will need to replace that wire to the phone.

B.  Check the Jack itself to see if the wire was pulled and disconnected wires from the jack components.  Wiggling them or seeing them loose or the jack from the wall.  If so you will need a Telecommunications Technician.

C.  Now check to see if a button is depressed and not functioning. Sometimes keys will get depressed and get caught in the plastics of the phone.  So hit all buttons to see if a button won’t rise up or is stuck down.
